Get ready! On your mark, go.
My freezer is so full ... (Insert your own joke here). Actually, I'll tell you just how full it is. Yesterday, I got a great deal on some pepperidge farm frozen garlic toast at the P. It was only .20 per box (who can resist that?), so I picked up two boxes. I thought I would never find a place for them in the freezer!
I'm determined to fix this and maybe have room for a box of Zaycon chicken in October.
Here's the plan. No meat purchases in September until I can fit 40 pounds if chicken in the freezer. Deli meat excluded. Something needs to come out EVERY single day - fruit, vegetable, or dessert item.

2013 Gardening Review
I started out strong with my garden this year. I planted a bunch of seeds back when the weather was still quite cold (February-March). Some germinated, some didn't. After much effort, I finally got the pepper seeds to germinate by placing them between damp paper towels in a ziplock bag.
I can't seem to get the seedlings to get big enough indoors (I think because we keep our house cool in those early spring months and there is very little sunlight available inside) to be successful transplants. The weather was slow to warm into Spring and this was not good for the seedlings. I even bought a mini greenhouse for the deck but even that didn't help much.
I bought 5 tomato plants and one pepper. Later, I purchased a basil plant and a cilantro plant. (The oregano successfully over wintered. I planted two of the tomatoes in a pot on the deck thinking it would get the most sun. Then, summer hit. Hard. With lots of rain. After all the summer, I had one tomato on the deck plant which was eaten by some wild animal. The other tomato plants went into the raised bed. From those, I've harvested one tomato and have two very small ones growing now. No peppers. I think a chipmunk ate those.
Failure. Utter failure. The herbs have done fair. The constant rain is a challenge since the soil never really drys out.
Next year, all the tomatoes will go into the raised bed and a bird netting will go over it once we get fruit. Peppers will be grown on the deck. I'll utilize the green house and move those seedlings out there sooner. Herbs will overwinter in the greenhouse.
Oh, and a bought strawberries. Out of 20 plants, 3 took root and survived. No strawberries.
My homestead is just not set up for a vegetable garden. I'm so glad I'm not depending on it for survival.

Menu for the week
Confession: I spent way more on groceries than I intended this week and were really going to have to work on eating the fresh stuff before it goes bad. Lets call it poor planning!
Sunday - steak and baked potatoes
Monday - BBQ sandwich and sweet potato fries
Tuesday - cube steak and mashed potatoes
Wednesday - Italian sausage, pasta and salad
Thursday - salad
Friday - homemade pizza
I need to find a way to integrate bananas, strawberries, blueberries and grapes into this !!!

M.I.A.
Well, obviously, I've been MIA for almost a month. During that time, we took a short weekend trip to the beach to visit with family who live in many different states.
Some work issues have kept both myself and DH jumping. Is it just us or have people just become mean and unreasonable?
I'm working on a menu plan for next week that utilizes what we have and just supplementing with new purchases. It's a good week to start this since the sales at the P (Publix) aren't that great for our needs this week. I've not been to Aldi in weeks (I missed a good week because I was sick and had other obligations) but I'll make a stop tomorrow to pick up a couple of items I usually purchase there.
I will also be updating some of the projects I've been working on and a plan for the fall. (The air was cool today and it reminded me that fall is just around the corner. Summer has been long and wet here. The yard needs some desperate attention and time has been short.)
It looks like our kitchen plans will remain on hold for a while so I'm trying to find a solution to my pot cabinet problem. A trip to Ikea may be in order.
