Coke products $3.33 for a 12 pack of cans,
Buy three, get one free. Net was $9.99/4 or $2.50 each
(This is the best deal I've seen in a while)

My OOP was $105.78 which is considerably higher than usual. I can account for this with nearly $34 of meat - including a Boston Butt for $14. I had wanted a smaller one but they did not have. Fortunately, I have a great recipe for pulled bbq pork from the Crock Pot. We have a lot of pulled pork - enough for dinner for six, plus lunch for two and dinner for two and then some for the freezer. My savings for this trip was $143.00!

Now I have replenished my supply of baked beans, pasta and I have plenty of bbq sauce, spaghetti sauce and salad dressing to get by for quite some time.

I'm planning a small grocery trip next weekend - not exactly a pantry challenge, but my grocery shopping for the weekend of 5/30 will be limited to items needed and really good sale items.

Restaurant Marketing and Great Deals

Ted's Montana Grill has been running some fabulous marketing the last few weeks. First they asked us to submit our own endorsement of their restaurant. By doing so, they rewarded us with bogof burgers. Then they asked us to vote on the top submissions and for this, they rewarded us with bogof burgers. Now, they're running coupons for $10 off any two lunch or dinners - including burgers.

We love the Ted's burgers, their atmosphere and their service. We REALLY love the coupons. Where can you get a big, juicy burger (beef or bison) with a side dish for only $10. Even adding a soft drink and a draught beer, our total was only $15! It's a great way to get out without spending a lot. (Thanks to hubby for staying on top of these new coupons and voting our way to free burgers!)

Many other restaurants are also running promotions with coupons or specially priced menus. With many folks staying home to save money, the restaurants are looking for our business. Take advantage of these offers while they are available - for surely they won't last long.

Another Great Trip to Publix

Although my savings today was only 57%, I still found some great deals and only spent $85! If you're looking for some fabulous bargains, most of these are still good until Wednesday or Thursday (depending on your market).

The best deal was the McCormick Grill Mates. Publix normally sells these for $1.99 each but they were buy one, get one free and after a $1 mq, I picked up 8 free. I also found the Lysol NeutrAir at only $1.79 each at the BOGOF price less a great $1.50 mq making them only .29 each! Shedd Country Crock as also value priced at only .95 (bogof price) and only .05 each after coupons! Two to the freezer for later and two for now.

Bargain priced after coupons were the Lawry's Marinade and the Ken's Steak House Dressings. Yummy! With summer time coming, we'll use these to grill some cheap chicken and dress some crisp salads - hopefully with some homegrown tomatoes.

Using a Publix coupon AND a manufacturer's coupon, I only paid $1.69 each for two eight-packs of Energizer batteries. I found some Johnson and Johnson first aid items in the clearance bin and picked up two for only $2.79 - for both - after the Publix coupon and a mq. Glad wrap was also an Advantage buy at only $1 a roll. After a manufacturer's coupon, these were only .50 each. I picked up six rolls which should last a while.

I combined a target coupon and a mq to pick up some Kraft shredded cheese for only $1.50 per package. Maxwell House coffee is an 'essential' this week so I picked up two and used a mq to pay only $1.50 per package.

In addition to all the specials and sale items, I also picked up a fair amount of salad vegetables - lettuce, peppers, tomatoes (at only .99 a pound) and a quarter of a watermelon.

As the cherry on top, I also filled a prescription for antibiotics absolutely FREE.

If any of these items fit your menu or pantry needs, clip those coupons and get to Publix before this sale ends. More Kraft items will be on sale next week, too!

Woo Hoo! I saved 73% tonight

I ran over to Publix this evening to pick up some more Hidden Valley Ranch dressing for the little girls. (As I've said, they love to dip EVERYTHING in it.) They only had the lite but that will work for them. My OOP was only $11.77 and I saved a whopping $31.74!

How did I do it? With the exception of a quart of milk, I only bought items that were on sale and I had coupons for.

The nitty gritty details:

4 Hidden Valley Dressings
Regularily $3.19 each, BOGOF for $1.60 less 2 $1.50 IP meaning that they were only .80 each

2 Glad Wrap
Regularily $1.59 on sale for $1 each less 2 .50 MQ (doubled) netting only .50 per roll.

Sara Lee Cheesecake Bites (1)
Regularily $3.99 at 50% off for $1.99 less a $1 MQ to be only .99 each

Sara Lee Simple Sweets (6) 2 serving sized desert pies
Regularily $3.39 at 50% off for $1.69 each less 6 $1 MQ netting to only .69 each.

Add a quart of milk at $1.49 to get the total which includes .48 tax.

Great trip, even the guy behind me in line commented on my savings. I'd love to save that kind of percentage with every trip to Publix, wouldn't you?

Tip: Start clipping and saving those Kraft coupons. There's a sneak peek that says Kraft items will be on sale soon (BBQ sauce, salad dressing, cheese, etc.)

Last week's deals

I picked up a couple of good deals at Publix last week. The best deal was the Chinet napkins. The beverage size (3) were on sale for .99 less a .50 coupon, doubled, meant they were free!

Glass Plus was on BOGOF for only $1.24 each. After that .50 coupon, doubled, it was only .24 per container. Hidden Valley Ranch was BOGOF less a $1.50 IP netting only .80 each. The little girls love ranch dressing (dip) for everything. (They had suggested that I buy 7 but at only 3 years, I think their eyes were bigger than their stomachs!)

More Finish detergent for only $1.40 per box. For dessert, Sara Lee cheesecake bites at 50% less a mq were only .99 each. Yum! They also had a good deal on pot roast and baby carrots. Rice for only .29 after coupon.

Unfortunately, I was only able to pick up two of the Hidden Valley Ranch items because that was all they had on the shelf. I really need to pick up two more. I did not get to use my $1 off the Atlanta Journal Sunday because there was just too much going on.

I was able to use a couple of coupons at Target. I picked up a pound each of three different types of apples using three $1 off Target coupons. I paid about $1.60 for 7 apples. Also I used a .55 Johnsonville coupon on some Italian sausage they had on sale for $3. Lastly, I picked up a half gallon of Breyers Ice Cream - on sale for $3 less .75 MQ. Not a bad trip to Target. I had heard that Chex mix was on sale for .99 but I think it was probably in another region.

Menu Monday

Saturday - Spaghetti with Meat Sauce
Sunday - Crockpot Pot Roast
Monday - Beanie Weenies with Salad
Tuesday - Left over Roast
Wednesday - Chili Dogs or Baked Potatoes (diner's choice)
Thursday - Chicken and Dumplins
Friday -TBD

As you notice, we're focused on hot dogs this week. I had a package of Ball Park Franks that needed to be consumed this week. DH asked for chili dogs but I'm offering a Baked Potato in case DD decides that she doesn't want Chili Dogs.

S-weet!

Run!
Do not walk!
to Kroger TODAY!

As part of their three day sale, they are offering a four pound bag of Dixie Crystal's sugar for only .99 with your Kroger Plus Card. (They do limit this to 4.)

Pair this with a .30 MQ we clipped just before Easter and you will walk away with four pounds of name brand granulated sugar for only .69! Unfortunately, the coupon restricts Kroger from doubling it but it's still a great deal.

I made two trips into the Kroger and picked up 8 bags. (Note that I also had to get some cheese!)

New Apprentice

Last night I asked DH what he was doing. To my surprise, he had heard about the KFC free meal deal and he was trying to get the coupons to print. I think he got in right under the wire and scored three of the KFC coupons.

Unfortunately, they are such a success that when he tried to stop at KFC for lunch today, they were lined up outside the building. Maybe tomorrow or next week will be a better choice. Good work, grasshopper.

Meanwhile, I'm still trying to get over my illness. It's been a week and I'm just beginning to feel better. I can't image how bad you must feel if you have the flu (or the swine flu)!

Quick note on Container Gardening

I was able to shred up some newspaper today to use as a mulch on some of my plants. Three with newspaper mulch and four without. We'll have to see which ones perform the best. Pictures to follow.

Review of Publix Deals

The best deals I found Sunday were:

Free Daisy Sour cream (.99 less .50 MQ doubled)
Free Publix Tea (.01 item)
Tostitos at only $1.50 for the large bag (BOGOF at $2.50 less $1 MQ)
Orville Redenbacker Pop corn at .58 per box
Finish Dish washing Tablets at 1.49 a box (on sale for $3.99 less $2.50 MQ)
French Toast Sticks at .90 per box (after BOGOF and 2 MQ)
3 12 pack of sodas for $8.00 (after 3 Target Coupons)

Total OOP was $81.70 and savings of $69.28. This total included a couple of first aid items from the clearance bin and several deli items - that always brings the cost up. Good considering I was not feeling well. This is a partial freezer/pantry week. I picked up items for dinner this week that originally I had not intended but I will substitute a full Freezer/Pantry Challenge next week.

DD also picked up a few items this week. On her first trip, she saved more than she spent. On the second trip - if I remember correctly - for $7 OOP she got a 18 pound bag of Purina Dog Food, two Puperoni Treats (25% extra size) and two boxes of Orville Redenbacker Popcorn. That's the way to go, DD!

Update and Menu Monday

I've been quite sick since Friday morning. (No, it's not swine flu!) I did manage to get to the grocery store today and I'll post an review of that tomorrow. In the meantime, here's menu Monday:

Sunday - Turkey (freezer) and fixins (pantry)
Monday - Quattro de Mayo - Tacos and fixins
Tuesday - Leftover Turkey
Wednesday - Homemade Subs
Thursday - Chef Salad and Baked Potatoes
Friday - Seasations (and Chicken) with Wild Rice
Saturday - Homemade Pizza

Notes: I found that not feeling well really put me in a mood not to cook. Friday night, we dined at Ted's Montana Grill. (DH had gotten a buy one burger, get one free coupon so it was cheap.) Saturday, nothing (I mean nothing) sounded good except a chicken enchilada. We went to our favorite Mexican restaurant and used a gift card to pay. Now, I'm back to cooking. Everyone needs a break every once in a while.
