Wow! It's only been a week?
It seems like forever since I wrote something here, but in reality, it's only been a week. In that time, we've had company (enjoyed the visit Mom), baptisms (way to go girls!) and sickness (woe is me).
Seriously, I've spent the last three days battling a summer cold. It's never fun to be sick.
So, during this last week, not much has been done either frugal wise or craft wise. I'm hoping that we can make some more progress on our deck this weekend and I can squeeze some sewing in. Until then, here's our menu for the week (mostly gone now):
Sunday - Stickless KBobs, Rice, Veggies
Monday - Spaghetti with Meat Sauce
Tuesday - Hamburger and Potato Salad
Wednesday - Chef Salad (a mid-week tradition)
Thursday - BBQ Chicken with potatoes and onions, vegetable
Friday - TBD
Saturday - tBD
I need to get back on a regular grocery schedule. Bacon comes tomorrow. I've cleared a half a shelf in the freezer and hope that will be enough room. I'm thinking BLTs next week for sure.

Great price, no waiting....
We've found a great way to save a few bucks. Actually, this practice was started more as a necessity than a money saver. About 4-5 years ago DH participated in our state's defense force. (Kind of a semi- National Guard kind of thing.). As it turned out, there were many times that he found himself needing a haircut or trim on short notice. (They're very strict about hair and uniforms!)
We purchased a hair trimmer and I started trimming his hair between cuts. Eventually, we moved to only purchasing every other cut. DH has since left this but we've found that the at home cuts save us money and him time.
And there's never a wait!

Gardening
Gardening this year has been a challenge. I started a plethora of seeds way back while the weather was still frosty. I think our house is just too chilly during the winter to accommodate seed sprouting. We had some weird early spring weather that switched between cold and hot.
Squirrels ate or dug up most of my strawberry plants and my beans/peas just arent growing. As a result of all of this, my garden this year will consist of 4-5 tomato plants, one jalapeƱo plant and herbs. Honestly, most of my focus at this point is going to be on the herbs.
My oregano over wintered beautifully without much effort. I bought a new basil plant a couple of weeks ago and added chives and cilantro yesterday. I'll be dehydrating what we don't use as fresh.

An anything but frugal weekend...
Coming off of the Memorial Day weekend, who would have guessed that we would spend some real cash this past weekend. We did. Since we decided to refinish the deck floor instead of rebuilding, the material cost was about $200 including five gallons of product, several roller covers, etc.
We were able to refinish the older half of the deck flooring. Behr recommends using a 1/4-1/2" nap roller. We opted for the 1/2 inch nap since our boards were in such bad shape. After a thorough pressure washing on Friday, we put on one coat early Saturday and allowed it four hours to dry. We applied a second coat and found that some areas still needed a touch up. It could really use more in some places.
Our plan is to pressure wash the other half and apply the product. We may apply more product on the older section after we get the whole thing done. During the summer, we will also be applying a solid stain the the vertical slats.
Once that half of the deck was dry, we purchased a new grill from the Home Depot. We've been shopping and thinking about this for over a year and we decided to go with the Weber. Our last grill was a Weber and we've had it over 16 years. You can easily get any parts you need (I ordered replacement parts for the old one several times.). The Weber is more expensive but more likely to last a long time.
Tentative Menu for the Week:
Sunday - Citrus grilled chicken
Monday - Spaghetti with Hot Italian Sausage
Tuesday - Veggie Dinner or ???
Wednesday - Chef Salad
Thursday - Tacos!
Friday - TBD
